At last light this evening along the river Irwell between Alderbottom and Stubbins were at least 500 Sand Martin feeding low over the river. Some time earlier the easterly wind dropped and the wind increased from the south, the ambient temperature changed from 6 degrees to 12 degrees and a massive hatch of medium olives came of the river, I can only assume this attracted the birds. No Swallows or House Martins were seen.
