Tried an experiment on saturday, with the help of friends, mobile phones, cameras, and plenty of peanuts, we staked out three feeding stations and two wooded areas for over two hours and came up with a confiedent seven[nuthatch] individuals, with the aid of photographs we tried to identify these individuals, but could not find much difference. We are going to try again next march, could be interesting.
Those are good numbers Brian. Was it a couple of pairs you had breeding this year? Presumably the others are offspring that haven't dispersed. Point a few of them towards north Bolton, please.
Definately had two nest sites, but never saw the young fledge. It was something Ian said at the last meeting about nuthatch numbers, i tend to take them for granted, thats why i did the count. I tried with aid of photos to see if they were young ones, but could not tell. Next time i see one i will ask it to try north Bolton.
